DDM4v7 – My Favorite Daniel Defense Rifle

In an age where quad rails dominate the appearance of many AR-style rifles, Daniel Defense gets it perfectly right, IMHO, with the DDM4v7.  Daniel Defense helped establish the uninterrupted top rail, and that remains on the v7.  What I like is the rails at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock are moveable to different portions of the tube or you can completely remove them all together.  The cylindrical tube is very comfortable to hold, and your hands won’t get abraded by the sharp corners of a full-length picatinny rail as found on most other M4s.  No need for rail panels!  Do you really need all that rail anyway?

Did I mention this rifle points amazingly FAST!  It is feather light at 6 lbs. 6 oz. unloaded.  That is 1-2 pounds less than most other AR/M4 rifles.  You will love the lighter weight if you spend a day shooting on the range or carrying it hiking.  A lightweight barreled version is also available (designated the DDM4v7LW) which shaves an additional 3 oz. of weight from the weapon.  See below.

Of course, chambered in 5.56mm NATO, this rifle is capable of firing .223 Remington as well.  Watch out for rifles chambered in .223 Remington because they are not designed to fire 5.56mm NATO!

Add in the other standard features including a Magpul adjustable stock; PMAG 30-rd. magazine; and Chrome Moly Vanadium Steel, Cold Hammer Forged, 1:7 twist, 16″ barrel, and you have a real winner!  We have this rifle IN STOCK.  Call today.

Oh yeah, did I mention the perfect add-on is a Geissele Super Semi-Automatic Enhanced trigger?

FNH SCAR 17s – Is it worth the price? You bet!

The FNH SCAR 17s is in very high demand despite its higher than average price point of ~$3,000.  However, serious shooters are willing to pay that price for many reasons, and the purpose of this post is to clarify why you might want to consider the SCAR 17s for your personal collection.

The SCAR platform was launched from the U.S. military’s Individual Carbine competition.  Although the competition itself has run into some snags, FN moved forward with development of a civilian version (semi-auto only) of their rifle in the competition, and the SCAR 17s and 16s were born.

There are several stock features found on the SCAR that other semi-autos don’t provide without aftermarket parts.  For comparison purposes, other similarly priced 7.62x51mm NATO rifles might include the Armalite AR-10A Super SASS which is direct gas impingement or the Springfield M1A SOCOM II which has a piston driven bolt like the SCAR. Here is a list of the more important features of the SCAR normally not found in stock versions of these or many other tactical semi-autos in the same caliber:

  • Charging handle can be mounted on the right or left side (Learn why right-handed people might want the charging handle on the left)
  • Ambidextrous safety lever and magazine release
  • Flat top MIL-STD rail with additional sections at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions (the M1A SOCOM II does have this feature)
  • Adjustable cheek piece allows variable comb height to ensure quicker target acquisition when using a scope
  • Folding stock for easier carrying with a single-point sling

To be fair, the SCAR’s trigger is relatively heavy with a factory weight of ~8 lbs. compared to these competitors which come from the factory with lighter trigger pull-weights.  However, this is easily solved with the drop-in installation of a Geissele Super SCAR trigger which reduces weight to 4 lbs.  Its 2-stage design ensures safety while providing great accuracy.

We offer numerous other add-on accessories for the SCAR like the American Defense Delta scope mount, PWS Rail Extension, Magpul Angled Fore Grip, and rail panels by Tango Down.  The possibilities of customizing your SCAR are almost endless.

Imagine being able to shoot with a scope, remove it from the rifle, attach an EOTech or use iron sights, then switch back to the scope without losing more than 1 MOA.  The American Defense Delta Mount allows that as shown here.

When it comes to an accurate, reliable, and flat-out good-looking battle rifle, you simply can’t go wrong with the FN SCAR 17s!  Call us today, and let us help you build the SCAR of your dreams.
